North Wiltshire is an area rich in areas of rural beauty, an abundance of wildlife and areas of historical interest, all of which add to the attractiveness of the area and the quality of life for people living here. It is important that we work together to protect our environment and also to support the development of regeneration economic renewal in rural areas where there are now fewer shops, businesses and jobs. This can be achieved with the involvement of community groups and local residents who will help to identify new markets for products, goods and services.

What we will do

North Wiltshire Partnership will work with others on

  • A co-ordinated approach to fly tipping
  • Maintaining the rural identity of our communities
  • Reducing the amount of waste to landfill
  • Local opportunities for recycling
  • Reducing the amount of packaging

What is already happening

A wide range of groups and organisations are delivering work that contributes to improvements in this theme some examples include

  • Partners are working towards a zero biodegradable municipal waste to landfill District
  • The introduction of green waste collection
  • Wiltshire Wildlife Trust are working to support the reduction of household waste by promoting home and community composting
  • Communities are being encouraged to develop rethink rubbish directories and community events
  • Local volunteers are being encouraged to protect the environment including wildlife sites and nature reserves in North Wiltshire
  • Through the Agenda for Action Wiltshire assembly of Youth is raising awareness of environmental issues with young people
  • The kerbside recycling scheme throughout the District area
  • Community First are supporting the development and production of Parish Plans and working with communities and local partners to take forward local projects in response to emerging issues
  • North Wiltshire District Council is working with partners to widen opportunities for recreation and leisure us of the countryside
  • Open spaces in North Wiltshire are being managed in a way that will ensure maximum benefit to the community without a negative impact on the countryside
  • Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and the Renewable Energy Action Group are working to ensure the reduction of greenhouse gases through the use renewable energy
